There wasn't anything particularly exceptional as a student, just some good grades and a couple of activities that kept me busy throughout high school. i didn't do any internships, research, or any of the amazing ECs that get students into HYPS, nor did i have 3 million STEM awards. So i just want to offer some hope. while i may be a rare case, i think it goes to show that it's possible to get into these competitive schools without any of those activities and awards. have some faith and confidence in yourself, and shoot your shot at those prestigious colleges, even if your Nobel-Prize-winning-classmate is applying, and maybe you'll surprise everyone!
